Statistics from Freebox Revolution into Xymon server

For those who may not know, the “Freebox Revolution” is the 6th release of the access box from the French ADSL/FTTH provider named “Free”. In my case, it provides Internet access via FTTH. The box has a Web management interface from where you can configure and check statistics. The only “sad” news is that it does not provide any SNMP service. The only way to keep a eye on what goes through the ports is to log on the Web interface. Here’s how I use the Web interface to grab metrics and show them in Xymon.

Freebox (6) Revolution statistics in your Web page

The Freebox Revolution has a nice management GUI which provides metrics about in/out traffic. Unfortunately, it can only be seen from the management pages when you’ve been authenticated. Here’s a way to script the grab of the traffic pictures to show them in any Web page.

Freebox (6) Revolution Player dislikes Apple Airport 7.6

My Freebox Revolution Player is wiredly connected to the Freebox Revolution FTTH via an Apple AirPort Extreme. This morning, the AirPort told me it was expecting the 7.6 upgrade. I did upgrade it and everything seemed to be working OK (MacBook, Dell Latitude, Solaris server…) Then I powerred on the Freebox Player… which couldn’t reach the Freebox Server anymore… After a few cabling checks, I downgraded the AirPort to 7.5.2… And the Player did connect to the Server right away.

Remotely reboot the Freebox Server from OpenBSD

The Freebox Server is an ADSL/FTTH router provided by the french operator Free SA. From it’s Web interface, you can apply changes and reboot the box. But if you can’t access this Web interface, you just won’t be able to reboot the box. Didier Segura provides a PHP script that can be used to remotely reboot the box . On my OpenBSD box, the installation and launch is quite straight forward:

Téléphone DECT GAP et Freebox Revolution

En prévision de l’arrivée de la fibre Free (FTTH) sur ma Freebox Révolution et du déménagement du “Server” dans le placard de l’entrée, il me faut brancher un téléphone sans fil qui va résider sur la table du salon. Pour ce faire, Free propose la téléphonie sans-fil au moyen du protocole GAP (Generic Access Profile).
