PiKVM using a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W

My new OpenBSD server / toy is a fanless barebone that is supposed to be connected to an HDMI monitor and a USB keyboard. The serial console port is only available since OpenBSD boots. So I decided to assemble a KVM using a Raspberry Pi Zero and the PiKVM software to be able to gain full access to the BIOS and bootloader via the network.

Slackware Linux 15 with FDE on UEFI laptop

Slackware Linux was my first Linux distribution. I can’t recall if it was 1.x or 2.x. Anyway, I’ve always loved that distrib. Since Slackware 15.0 has recently been released and I’ve not been using Linux as a desktop since decades, let’s experiment with it. I’ll install it on my ThinkPad T460s using Full Disk Encryption.

FreeBSD 13 on Thinkpad T460s

For some reasons, I decided to use FreeBSD on my laptop. Several times have I tried it in the last few years. Several times have I stopped after the first issue that I felt was sign of it not being built for me. This time, I’ll go for at least a whole month of using it. So I can really decide if I keep using it ; or switch back to OpenBSD.

OpenBSD on MeLE Quieter2

I used a refurbished ThinkPad X230i to run my Nextcloud instance and provide rsnapshot/Samba/TimeMachine services. It was mostly nice but tend to freeze from time to time ; maybe more and more… So I decided it should be replaced. I seeked for something silent (I can’t stand fan noise), small (has to fit in a 33cm KALLAX-like cabinet) and capable of providing enough storage. Hopefully, or not, @FanlessTech tweeted about the MeLe Quieter2 machine around 2021/08. Since then, I kept lurking at it. And I finally got one on last Black Friday.
