Windows XP on Dell Inspiron Mini 10 (1012)
191 words, 1 minutes
My Mini 10 came with Windows Seven Starter Edition ; which sucks. So I replaced it with Windows Seven Professional Edition but I felt like it’s really slow. So I decided to run Windows XP on it.
The problem is that, even with XP SP3, the AHCI disk access is not enable from the instalation CD. So I had to switch to ATA mode (in the BIOS), do the installation and switch back to AHCI.
Here’s the full procedure:
- Enter the BIOS and switch to the
ATA disk mode
; - Install Windows XP;
- Start Windows XP;
- Unzip the chipset driver archive on your desktop (
Intel Tiger Pointer Chipset
); - Launch the
Device Manager
; - Expand the
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
section, right-click onPrimary IDE channel
and selectUpdate Driver
; - Don’t let Windows connect to Windows Update at this time;
- Select
Install a list or specific location (advance)
; - Select
Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install
; - Choose
Have disk
; - Browse to the INF file location, select it and click
OK
; - Restart the machine;
- Enter the BIOS and switch back to
AHCI
mode; - Start Windows;
- Enjoy!
